These projects were completed during my third year of university, I independently completed the following projects with guidance from my tutors. These projects illustrate my interpretation of the brief, the process of project development, and the creation of final design drawings and 3D models.
The architectural project is a neurodiversity-focused installation located near Bath Abbey in the historic city of Bath. It features a building with six distinct spaces, each representing various emotional states experienced by neurodiverse individuals when engaging with the built environment.
The primary concept of this installation is to immerse neurotypical visitors in the experiences of neurodiverse individuals, such as those with autism, as they explore Bath's heritage sites. The goal is to enhance understanding and empathy. The building comprises six rooms, each dedicated to a specific emotional state: invisible, anxious, overwhelmed, disoriented, stigmatized, and isolated.
The architectural design project presented is a celebration and modernization of Bath's historical role as a spa city known for healing and rejuvenation. This project entails the creation of a Health and Wellbeing Centre situated at the heart of Bath, designed with conservation in mind while fostering inclusivity for individuals with psychosocial disabilities such as autism, anxiety, and ADHD. These individuals may seek to prioritize their mental and physical health, akin to past visitors to Bath who also sought healing. By incorporating universal design principles, the spa is made accessible to everyone, ensuring they can benefit from therapy services. This project serves as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, aiming to establish a socio-therapeutic space that offers private retreat areas for individuals when needed, yet encourages the restoration of wellness as a social and communal endeavor. Here, people find healing through their connections with one another and with nature. This project is meticulously crafted with the conservation of Bath's heritage in mind, featuring biodiverse planting schemes and water features that enhance the sensory experience. However, instead of merely conserving Bath's historic buildings, this project innovates and revitalizes Bath as a modern spa city.
A select group of students from my year had the privilege of being chosen for an exceptional opportunity to visit Foster and Partners. During our visit, we were tasked with creating a three-dimensional model for one of their active projects, specifically an apartment tower. Collaborating on this 3D modeling project with Foster and Partners was an incredibly enriching experience.
It provided me with real-world applications of architectural concepts, enhanced my teamwork and communication skills through small group collaboration, and sharpened my technical proficiency with software tools like Revit and laser cutters. This project challenged me to think critically and problem-solve, honed my attention to detail, and provided me with a holistic understanding of the architectural design process. It also fostered personal growth, boosting my confidence and time management skills. In summary, this experience shaped me into a more capable and well-rounded aspiring architect.
